Penny coils

Here's some coils I made the other day. I made like five sets of them, and it was a real pain in the ass, this is so much harder than "normal" coils.

But it looks so cool I just couldn't help myself.

See them pennies?

Also I used that cool old-school cloth-covered coil wire, then dyed it a rich coppery brown color, then sealed it with a clear lacquer so they'll be easy to clean.

Then I did a voodoo dance and killed a chicken.
So here they are.



And here's how they look in a machine.



Now I've just got to get them sold, they're no good to me sitting on my workbench...

Whats so much harder about it?

Insulating the coins, plus it was a bitch to get them centered right, and on top of that I had to pull the plastic wire housing through a very very tight hole (hehe I said tight hole) And then there's just the general pain-in-the-ass of doing anything you've never done before.

Oh....because the way you posted this I thought you were trying to insinuate it was rocket science and you were the first to do it or something.

Well if you found it so much harder then making any other coil that you had to make that big of a deal pointing it out your either doing something wrong or trying to justify asking an unreasonable amount for them. And if thats what your doing ......oh sorry didn't mean to fuck up your scam.

I don't even know if they'll sell and if they do, it won't be for a hell of a lot. I honestly don't give that much of a shit if I ever get them sold.

How did you confuse "pain in the ass" with "rocket science"?

I don't know much of anything about machine building, but I think they look really awesome.

No point in being a jackass when he's just trying to share some of his work.... I didn't take it as him saying it was something spectacular, just something he made and wanted to post.

Some of us in the machine building side of this craft have respect, integrity, and ways of doing things because of it and some don't. Because of that some are much more respected by their peers and some are not. So it may be that there is history here based on ethics etc. that you know nothing of and that I know plenty of and it could be that is why I am being a "jackass"

The fact that I have been in my machine shop since monday night at 12:30 am and have been working on machines non stop except for a 1 1/2 hr nap and 2 1hr round trips to the train station and back to pick up Anya (DeadCityKitty for those that don't know her real name) has me a little grouchy might not be helping.

It could also be that I very much pointed out that if it was such a pain in the ass for him he was doing something wrong(which if that was the truth could be a hint to look for another way because its there) , and if he was trying to pump up how hard it was to justify a higher price he was full of shit. And since I have made many coils with pennies, nickels, 50 cal bullets, etc. that I do know exactly whats involved and how hard it is and you would have no clue.


And "Now I've just got to get them sold, they're no good to me sitting on my workbench..." at the end of a post like that sounds like someone trying to sell something not just show his work.

I see your point, and as I said I don't know anything about the mechanics of building machines (I know what most of the parts are, but other than that I'm lost for the most part). I just think that unless you have a previous history with this specific person and know him really well, there is no point in posting the way you did.

I just hate that people waste their time on the internet bickering and fighting about little things when it would be so much more productive to post more positive things, you know what I mean? It would be better to build up the community by posting things in a more uplifting way.

I don't know, you may have your own reasons for posting the way you did, I just saw it as harsh from someone outside the machine-building side of things, if that makes sense.
