I don't get the hospital thing. Firstly, I'm much less likely to end up in a hospital, statistically speaking, because I am not a woman. Women are admitted to hospitals 8 times more frequently than men, and the average duration of their stay is nearly twice as long (Johnson, Rubenthal et al, Harvard study, 1976).

If I did somehow end up in a hospital, I'd be six times more likely to be treated by a man than by a woman; yes, women are usually the nurses who stick stuff in my orifices, (yippie, who gives a shit- if I'm bad off enough to be in a hospital, I don't give a good goddamn how rough you are with some tube) but the surgeons are usually male. When it comes to the really specialized stuff like brain surgery, heart surgery, transplants etc, a woman is 17 TIMES LESS LIKELY!!! to be the surgeon. It's nearly safe to say that women simply don't do that job, any more than they build houses or lead the military.

So, hurray for you and your little power trip about your nifty job as a nurse. But you really don't have any clout or influence. In a 1999 survey conducted by Rogers Research Group, it was shown that nurses and other non-surgical staff were 2000% more likely to be fired over 5 or less patient complaints. You are disposable. Nursing schools are cranking out replacements by the dozen.
