A Few Watercolors
In the past 8 months or so, I've been going back to watercolors (been working with oils for a while). I really enjoy large-scale work, so I decided to try out watercolors in a larger format.
Here's the first one I tried from December 2008. It's about 4'x5'.
My inspiration on this one came from researching the work of Helen Frankenthaler, who was a contemporary of Jackson Pollock. Anyway, it's watercolor, acrylic based inks, and guache on Arches hot press paper.
colors are a little off in this photo, but here's a general idea:
The second is a self portrait I did around March of this year, drawn from life/looking in a mirror. It's about 4'4"x5'6", and is watercolor, guache, acrylic based ink, and coffee. On Arches cold press paper.
This is the most recent watercolor that I've done, and it was done in.... I think April or May? It's about 4'x6'6", watercolor, sea salt, guache, and acrylic based ink; also used sandpaper to sand down some of the areas. This isn't a finished photo, but for some reason I forgot to take one after I finished the painting. It's on Arches hot press (sorry, can't remember the pounds on any of the papers).
Close up:
to show scale:
Hoping to get up enough money to start another one soon, but the paper is fucking expensive.... easily paid $50 for one sheet off the roll. I just need to order a whole roll, but it's a few hundred for that hahaha......
Anyway, Would love some feed back!
